“Uber is on the march to global domination of local transportation” is the belief of Geoffrey Parker and his colleagues (authors of the best tutorial on how to become a dollar billionaire).

Can this be ruled out following Uber’s mediocre stock market launch, down from a dream of $120bn to a value of $62bn at the end of the second day of trading? Not really. Even this lower value presupposes the coming of monopoly profits. But there are potential competitors such as Baidu, Alphabet/Waymo, Amazon and other American and Chinese companies. No European concern has enough data power to compete. Swedish politicians seem poorly prepared for the challenges ahead. What can we in academia offer them in terms of relevant knowledge?
